5 - 3D product models by Shopify with iOS17
Shopify's latest feature, allowing all its merchants to create 3D product models through the app, showcases the company's swift innovation pace. This advancement promises to enhance the customer experience by providing an immersive way for shoppers to interact with products, boosting confidence and reducing returns. It's a clear sign of Shopify's commitment to staying ahead in e-commerce technology.
4 - Klaviyo & Instacart IPOs
The recent IPOs of Instacart and Klaviyo underscore the vast opportunities within the e-commerce ecosystem. Instacart's successful Nasdaq debut, despite a drop from its peak valuation, highlights the resilience and appeal of the grocery delivery giant. Klaviyo's strong IPO valuation demonstrates the stability of late-stage investments. These examples emphasise the significance of e-commerce as a thriving sector, offering opportunities for a wide range of businesses, from delivery platforms to marketing tech companies, and showcasing the potential for both early and late-stage investors to navigate this dynamic market.
3 - New Logistics Upgrade by FedEx
FedEx is launching Picture Proof of Delivery (PPOD), a feature aimed at enhancing the user experience in the final mile of delivery for express residential shipments in Europe. PPOD provides customers who opt for 'no-signature-required' deliveries with a photo showing the exact location of their package upon delivery. This visual confirmation will be accessible via the FedEx website and mobile app, offering customers peace of mind and boosting confidence in future purchases. The move aligns with the growing eCommerce market in Europe and changing consumer expectations, with real-time order tracking being a key driver of satisfaction. FedEx's innovation is expected to prompt similar features from other courier services.
2 - Magento Migration Wave
Xavier Armand, CEO of Vaan Group, discusses the ongoing relevance of Magento in the eCommerce migration landscape. He highlights that brands still consider migrating from Magento to Shopify due to cost-cutting efforts, emphasizing the changing economic environment. Armand also addresses the Headless vs. Composable debate, suggesting that a hybrid approach is often more practical. He emphasizes the importance of A/B testing to mitigate client fears during migrations. When asked about Adobe's acquisition of Magento and Figma, he predicts growth for Adobe and sees Shopify as the dominant commerce platform for the next decade, citing its market cap, features, and growth as unbeatable. Armand shares several successful Magento to Shopify migration stories, underlining the platform's appeal for forward-thinking brands.

1 - Tobi Lütke: “Everyone should study Amazon“
In this interview with Tobi, founder and CEO of Shopify, he discusses Shopify's origin story, adapting to the pandemic's impact on e-commerce, empowering entrepreneurship, their collaboration with Amazon, and the launch of Sidekick, an AI-driven tool for business owners. Lütke's unique approach to reducing meetings and subtraction in company operations is also highlighted, making it essential for those interested in e-commerce, entrepreneurship, and innovative company cultures. Must watch!
App of the week: SweetHelp
I’ve had a call this week with one of the co-founders of SweetHelp, an app focusing on integrating WhatsApp with Shopify. Their claim to fame: their solution is the best tool you can have to recover abandoned checkouts. I’m looking forward to see some more case studies and data from them. Curious about how much traction they’ll get. You can check them out here.
E-Business Forum 2023
On Tuesday, I’m going to Prague again. This time for the E-Business Forum event, where you’ll see some major personalities from the Czech Ecommerce community like Ondřej Ilinčev, Martin Kasa, Václav Staněk and many more. I’m fortunate to also be giving a short presentation about the future of Shopify in the Czech market: “Shopify’s Tsunami arrives to Czechia”. It will be fun!
