Hello 👋
After last week’s huge news, we are back to the grind! Now more than ever, there’s a lot to do and no time to waste. The holiday season is coming and more big merchants consider Shopify Plus for their business (like Nike did for example). Also Halloween is coming, and even though I’m not the most enthusiastic fan of this holiday, it was super cool that one merchant I’m advising to move from Magento to Shopify Plus, to send some costumes to my kids:
Shout out to their store with a great sortiment of costumes for all occasions.
5 - Amazon Consult-a-Friend
Amazon has introduced Consult-a-Friend, a feature for collaborative shopping, allowing users to seek and manage product feedback from friends. This is relevant as it leverages the trusted recommendations of friends and streamlines group gift buying. The feature is being tested with customers in various countries. Additionally, Amazon has rolled out "Inspire," an in-app shopping experience that allows users to discover products, shop content from influencers, and share their own shoppable content to foster community and inspiration in shopping. These innovations reflect a growing trend in e-commerce, emphasizing social interaction and recommendations as key drivers of online purchasing decisions.
4 - Cheaper iPhone 15 in China
Chinese Ecommerce platforms are offering discounts of up to $205 on Apple's latest iPhone 15, with prices on JD.com, Pinduoduo, and Alibaba's Taobao significantly lower than the official retail cost. This follows a reported 4.5% sales decline compared to the iPhone 14, prompting aggressive discounting strategies amidst intense market competition and consumer frugality. While Apple has not commented, the platforms' move reflects the growing emphasis on price competitiveness and consumer demand in the e-commerce industry.
3 - Buy BMW car online?
BMW Group is venturing into direct-to-consumer sales, starting with its Mini brand in select European countries. This move aligns with the industry's shift towards eCommerce integration. BMW plans to offer both online and in-person purchasing options and aims to enhance customer satisfaction with a premium buying experience. Despite the growth of online car sales, recent reports suggest a temporary decline in this sector. However, the trend highlights the increasing digitalisation of the automotive retail landscape.
2 - MrBeast's creator economy lessons
Shopify is partnering with YouTube sensation MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) and has extended their collaboration from social media to an in-person event in New York. The Shopify x MrBeast Heist experience event sold out quickly and is part of their efforts to explore the creator economy and long-tail content viewership. This partnership aims to make entrepreneurship more relatable and accessible, leveraging MrBeast's content business and promoting his own brand, Feastables. Shopify is incorporating brand integration into MrBeast's YouTube videos, achieving millions of views and authentic engagement from fans. This approach aligns with the growing trend of creators' influence and the extended shelf life of their content.
1 - Shopify’s Checkout for Mobile Apps
Shopify has introduced Mobile Checkout SDKs, facilitating seamless, customisable, and high-converting checkout experiences for mobile apps. With the aim of simplifying the checkout process, these SDKs provide a managed checkout experience that encompasses all backend and frontend logic, ensuring consistent business rules and personalized user experiences. The SDKs are currently in the Developer Preview phase, allowing for feedback and improvements before the anticipated general availability by the end of 2023. Designed to work seamlessly with Shopify's Mobile Kit, the SDKs enable developers to create bespoke storefronts and product discovery flows and integrate identity management. Furthermore, Shopify plans to release updates in 2024 for Buy SDK and new identity SDKs, further enhancing the mobile commerce experience.
App of the week: Ecomail
Ecomail has enhanced its integration with Shopify for e-commerce businesses. This integration now transfers contacts from orders in real-time and includes automatic coupon transfers for campaigns. It also transfers order status and categories. If you have a Shopify store and haven't connected it to Ecomail, you can easily do so with their guide. Additionally, Ecomail now allows you to export and import automations, making it simpler to manage and share automated campaigns across multiple accounts.
