#4 - Shopify Summer Editions 2023 Recap
Special edition: my 5 favourite releases and updates announced this week by Shopify. Only a few of the 200+ functionalities shipped annually by this awesome platform and community.
Hello 👋
The very much anticipated Shopify Summer Editions 2023 happened this Wednesday. OMG! So many sweet sweet updates! This week instead of sharing my typical Ecommerce news and insights, I’ll go deep into Shopify’s announcements and share my top 5 from the 100+ features announced.
Before diving into it, I’d love to refer you to
’s article on LinkedIn on this topic. Super insightful as usual!5 - New Native Apps
Shopify apps are a whole topic in itself. You can see my post where I explained why usually they have such low ratings. These are the hottest updates regarding Shopify Native Apps:
NEW Subscriptions: basic functionality covered without requiring another app. Awesome to get started and play with a new business model for entrepreneurs afraid of betting too hard on it from the get-go.
NEW Bundles: Over the years most apps that allowed bundles to be sold recurred to “hacking the system” to make it look well, but never functioned exactly as one would like: messy SKUs setup, complex pricing management, and bad inventory tracking. Now you can solve all of these issues with Shopify’s native app or even build a custom one for more complex cases.
NEW Marketplace Connect: easier and simpler connection with Amazon, Walmart, eBay, and Etsy.
BETTER Shop App: Not only sell on this mobile app marketplace created by Shopify - configure your page, almost as if it would be your own app!
BETTER Inbox: AI comes to the rescue. Besides Shopify Magic and Sidekick, you also get a more efficient way to communicate at scale with your customers.
4 - Store Contextualization
Have you ever asked yourself: could I use one Shopify store for all the globe and even for my wholesale needs? Until this Wednesday, I wouldn’t lightly agree with that approach. Now Shopify Markets and the new B2B functionalities introduced come with this context concept: different content and sections per market and target audience.
3 - Important for the bigger merchants
If you can’t afford Shopify Plus yet but need to build some kick-ass integrations, now you may be able to do it: the Admin API doubled its rate limit for the Shopify Advanced plan
One of the biggest problems for big operations with Shopify is that you can’t change much in the admin of the store. You can’t have a completely custom dashboard to manage your business. This is about to change:
With admin action extensions, you can conveniently access vital app features from a modal directly within the admin interface. This eliminates the need to switch contexts or endure waiting times for apps to load, streamlining the user experience.
Meanwhile, admin block extensions empower you to showcase data and offer functionalities through inline cards on specific admin pages, such as product details and order details. This enhances the visibility and accessibility of important information, ensuring a smoother administrative process for merchants.
2 - Drag & Drop!
Yes, already coming later this year.: FLEX SECTIONS. The super power tool that will allow you to make your store’s design your own, with NO CODE. If before you believe Wix or Squarespace had a competitive advantage in this sector compared with Shopify → it’s time to change your mind.
On top of this, you know can do much more with your Shopify themes:
Change color schemes and design feel with one click and no effort (or paid designer)
Built-in animations on Shopify Free Themes
Additional styling options for better conversion, including customizable announcement bars, modernized headers, and prominently displayed conversion-driving apps
1 - B2B on Shopify
Now the belle of the ball 🥰 B2B. Shopify started just last year to take seriously their B2B efforts, but from my perspective, they are going exactly on the right path. Here are some of the B2B features released:
More and more Shopify Plus B2B solution is making my life and big merchants’ lives easier. We have a project that before require around 2000 hours of implementation effort, and now we’ll be able to do it within 50. Thanks, Shopify!
